Why is it so hard to get work done at work?

Is it just me, or is the least productive part of the day the 9-5 portion?  I get my best work done from 8-9am and in the evenings when most people (namely your boss / clients are not around to disrupt your groove).  Here is a really interesting video describing the why so many of us actually need to get away from work to get our work done.  While some of it may not be applicable to those of us working in professional services, he does raise some interesting points and gets you thinking outside the box about the concept of work.

i’ve just started working as a level one staff accountant and this totally speaks to me as i am getting CONSTANTLY interrupted in my work since i basically pick up the garbage that no one wants. even if it is to file one page of doc I need to come to rescue and do it. maybe next time I can shut their faces and tell them that i’m inefficient cuz of them lol (not in a billion years but i can dream)

Maybe there shouldnt be meetings, they should just summarize the important information that they want theire EEs to know. Post it on a EE bulletin board and let them read it during break?

  4. There is something to be taken from this. In my experience I do find that I am very productive on an evening between 7pm and 10pm, when I complete tax returns, company accounts, etc and feel very relaxed and happy doing so. I quite enjoy working at this time and find I can relax doing so.

  5. many great points about the video. Maybe that’s why I want to do more freelance jobs rather than being hired in a company

  6. One of the advantages of being self employed is that you can plan your time as you wish. You can plan to do your work at times at which you have the most energy and motivation. You can fit in family commitments that would be inconvenient were you working for someone else. It really is a win win situation.

It`s very true. This is why more and companies have been switching towards getting work done remotely.

i agree, my most productive time is always between 6-9pm. I find the office environment tends to induce stress, distractions and poor diet etc, which, in turn, causes less productivity

  9. This post is so true, which explains why I am writing this whilst at work!
